Iceland - Z lister free!

On the first day a walk along Reykjavik seafront brought me a crazy lady who introduced herself as having had tea with Diana and a lot of opinions. After her asking me what I'd like to be when I grow up (that's what you get when you look 16), I told her I want to be a journalist. Not strictly true, but who can be assed to explain their ambitions to a rambling crazy lady?!

After 45 MINUTES of trying to politely say good bye, she insisted on giving me a book to help me with my studies.... apparently a book on architecture written in Icelandic will come in most useful....! It's brand new and hardback and she just happened to be carrying it around. An interesting souvenir!

Unfortunately we didn't see the Northern Lights. We went on a 5 hour trip that I swear had an endorsement deal with a petrol station in the middle of nowhere (as most places feel in Iceland). After an hours drive there, we drove back in the direction we came for another hour! Alas, the coach would only let us wait to see the lights for 20 minutes. As my aunt who I was with had seen them before, she knew you have to wait hours and be patient... what a con! If you go to Iceland, avoid Iceland Excursions!! Rant over :p

Another great day out was at the world famous blue lagoon which looks a bit like this;

Blue Lagoon

We went there during a storm. Whilst the water is pumped from the depths of a volcano making you toasty on the bottom half, torrential wind and rain battered my face. Bizarre! There are deep holes and crevasses that you stick your arms into, and bring out a natural clay that is heavenly for your skin. Lying in white smokey water in a storm with a natural face mask on is one of the strangest experiences I've ever had! Amazing.

We also visited a glacier which was fantastic. It was sad to see it melting; allegedly the flowing river coming from it was a trickling stream the week before. I've never taken so many pictures of ice!

We also checked out some water falls (also during a storm - I've never been so drenched!) This one features on the Scottish Widows advert, if anyone cares!

Waterfall with the unpronounceable name.

Besides being the most expensive place I've ever encountered (a bottle of cider the size of a Becks cost £6 on average). But for the experiences it was worth it!
